3 Tips to Close the Gender Wage Gap

Obstacles exist for almost everything.  Unfortunately there are also obstacles for earning equal pay for equal work! Identifying the obstacles empower us to overcome them! The gender wage gap seems to be a never-ending issue.  The wage gap is caused by several issues including gender bias, racial bias and discrimination, and industry worked. When I became aware of this and the fact that it has been going on forever, I felt powerless, but I wondered how can we overcome this ginormous issue? Did you know on average a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man? The wage gap is even worse for women of color! Upsetting right! Never the less, there are a few ways to overcome this issue.1. Research the national average on salaries for whichever job you are applying. Knowledge of this kind can help you more confidently negotiate a salary offer. 2. Go after promotions early on. Research shows that wages for women stagnate around age 30; since this is the age, most college educated women start having children. Going after promotions early on can minimize or prevent a wage gap issue later on.3. Track your accomplishments and share them with your leader, this increases your chances and percentage rate for promotions thus lessening the wage gap.
