When I became aware of this and the fact that it has been going on forever, I felt powerless, but I wondered how can we overcome this ginormous issue? Did you know on average a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man? The wage gap is even worse for women of color! Upsetting right! Never the less, there are a few ways to overcome this issue.1. Research the national average on salaries for whichever job you are applying. Knowledge of this kind can help you more confidently negotiate a salary offer. 2. Go after promotions early on. Research shows that wages for women stagnate around age 30; since this is the age, most college educated women start having children. Going after promotions early on can minimize or prevent a wage gap issue later on.3. Track your accomplishments and share them with your leader, this increases your chances and percentage rate for promotions thus lessening the wage gap.
